La Comida de California is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing appetizing, nutritious and affordable lunch to seniors who live locally, and to enriching their lives by creating a cheerful, socially stimulating atmosphere while they dine.
Meals were first served in the Parish Hall at the Episcopal Church at the corner of Hamilton and Waverly Avenues. Later, the kitchen at the Senior Center (now Avenidas) was outfitted with the help of federal funds. The Rotary Club of Palo Alto raised approximately $80,000 to construct and furnish a dining room as an addition to the Senior Center, which is located in the former Police and Fire Services building, a beautiful Spanish revival structure on Bryant Street in downtown Palo Alto.
